Washington, D.C. - The passing of Henry Kissinger, the influential former US Secretary of State, has sparked an outpouring of tributes from US leaders, predominantly from Republicans. Kissinger, who died at the age of 100, was remembered for his notable career in shaping US foreign policy and his controversial role in international relations.

Former US President George W. Bush paid homage to Kissinger, stating, "America has lost one of the most dependable and distinctive voices on foreign affairs with the passing of Henry Kissinger." Serving as national security advisor and later as secretary of state under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford, Kissinger played a pivotal role in several key diplomatic endeavors.

Kissinger's most prominent achievement was his crucial involvement in ending the Vietnam War, which earned him a Nobel Peace Prize. However, his strategy of employing bombing raids during the conflict led to criticism and accusations of being a war criminal. Despite this, many recognized his extensive knowledge of history and his profound impact on shaping global events.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed deep appreciation for Kissinger's wisdom and counsel, having sought his advice on numerous occasions, including as recently as a month ago. Blinken remarked, "Few people were better students of history - even fewer people did more to shape history - than Henry Kissinger."

Highlighting Kissinger's far-reaching influence, Blinken added, "To serve as America's chief diplomat today is to move through a world that bears Henry's lasting imprint - from the relationships he forged, to the tools he pioneered, to the architecture he built."

While President Joe Biden has not yet issued a statement regarding Kissinger's death, various Republican leaders have taken the opportunity to eulogize the late diplomat. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell referred to Kissinger as "a titan among America's most consequential statesmen," acknowledging the substantial impact of his ideas and diplomatic acumen.

House Speaker Mike Johnson praised Kissinger's immeasurable contributions to US foreign policy and his unwavering dedication to global peace and freedom. Republican presidential candidates, including former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, also shared their thoughts on Kissinger's passing, highlighting his influential role and the importance of studying his pragmatic foreign policies.

The absence of a statement from President Biden was addressed by National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby, who urged caution against speculating on its significance. Kirby noted during a press briefing, "I wouldn't read into it."
