Authorities in New Hampshire have identified the transient man responsible for the tragic shooting at New Hampshire Hospital on Friday afternoon. John Madore, a 33-year-old male known to have spent time in the Sea Coast and Concord areas, killed a security officer before being fatally shot by a state police trooper.
The victim has been identified as Bradley Haas, a 63-year-old former chief of police from Franklin, New Hampshire. Haas was working as a New Hampshire Department of Safety security officer at the time of the incident. His tragic death has left the community mourning the loss of a dedicated law enforcement veteran and caring father.
According to the New Hampshire Attorney General's office, Haas had served a total of 28 years with the Franklin Police Department, after spending three years as a military police officer in the Army. Attorney General John Formella expressed admiration for Haas, highlighting his service to the country, state, and community. Haas is now remembered as a hero who sacrificed his life to protect patients, staff, and visitors at New Hampshire Hospital.
The shooting incident occurred in the lobby of the Concord psychiatric hospital, prompting a swift response from state police. The state trooper, whose identity has not been released, successfully subdued Madore, preventing further harm. Preliminary investigations have lauded the trooper's actions as "heroic" and credited them with saving numerous lives. Fortunately, the trooper was unharmed during the incident.
Authorities have discovered crucial evidence from the scene. The State Police bomb squad employed a robot to examine a U-Haul box truck that was connected to Madore and parked at the hospital. Fortunately, it was determined that the truck did not pose a public safety risk. However, inside the truck, police discovered a tactical vest, an AR-style rifle, and multiple magazines of ammunition.
The weapon used by Madore in the shooting has been identified as a 9mm pistol. As the investigation into potential motives continues, authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to this tragic incident. The New Hampshire community has been urged to come forward with any information they may have by contacting the authorities at 603-628-8477.
New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu expressed his gratitude to the heroic individuals involved in averting a potentially more devastating situation. He commended the unyielding response of the New Hampshire Hospital staff, the bravery of law enforcement, and the selfless sacrifice of Bradley Haas. The community mourns the loss of a dedicated public servant but remains grateful for his contributions.
