A Texas mother made a heartbreaking discovery when she found the lifeless body of her 16-year-old daughter inside their home in Edna, Texas. Lizbeth Medina was found unresponsive on December 5 after she failed to show up to a Christmas parade earlier in the day. The police are now investigating the case as a capital murder.

Emergency responders arrived at the apartment at 6:57 p.m. but tragically pronounced Lizbeth dead at the scene. As an Edna High School cheerleader, Lizbeth was expected to participate in the parade with her cheer squad. Concerned when she did not see her daughter with the rest of the team, Jacqueline Medina, Lizbeth's mother, immediately rushed home.

In an emotional interview with KAVU-TV's "Crossroads Today," Jacqueline expressed her devastation: "Once I found her, I realized she was gone. Words can't explain what I felt at that moment finding my daughter in the matter that she was. All I can say is that I hope with all my heart that there is justice for my daughter."

Jacqueline Medina strongly believes her daughter's death is connected to a recent break-in that occurred at their Cottonwood Apartments unit a couple of weeks ago. She revealed that Lizbeth was at home when the break-in took place.

Authorities have not released specific details about the crime scene or whether there were signs of a struggle. Jacqueline Medina refuted online rumors claiming that a suspect was already in custody, highlighting that such misinformation is hindering the ongoing investigation. "I want the murderer of my daughter to be found and caught and put behind bars," she emphatically stated.

Described as a "special little girl, loving, kind, and big-hearted" by her mother, Lizbeth and Jacqueline had only been living in Edna for about a year. The tight-knit community has rallied around the grieving family, with Lizbeth's aunt setting up a GoFundMe to seek justice for her niece and provide support for the family.

The Edna Police Department, in collaboration with the Texas Rangers, is diligently working to locate and apprehend the individual responsible for this heinous crime. While the police ask the community to remain vigilant, they also stress that updates on the case will be limited to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

Edna Police Chief Rick Boone expressed his solidarity with the family in a statement, saying, "We ask you to join us in continuing to lift this family up in prayer." The community, shocked and saddened by the loss of Lizbeth Medina, is hopeful that justice will be served in due course.
