In a shocking turn of events, a teen murder suspect has managed to escape from custody outside a children's hospital in Philadelphia. The U.S. Marshals have released new images of the escapee, Shane Pryor, 17, as the manhunt for him intensifies.
Pryor's escape occurred on Wednesday, just hours after he fled from juvenile detention officers in the parking lot of the emergency room at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Footage captured by surveillance cameras shows Pryor wearing a blue hoodie inside a grocery store near Godfrey Avenue and Mascher Street at around 1:30 p.m. It is believed that he had help from an individual identified as 18-year-old Michael Diggs, who was later arrested for his alleged involvement in Pryor's escape.
Further video evidence obtained by FOX29 Philadelphia reveals Pryor putting on a blue hoodie outside a corner store. Additionally, U.S. Marshals released footage showing Pryor in the lobby of the Hub for Clinical Collaboration building at the hospital, just five minutes after his escape. In the video, Pryor is seen having a conversation with the front desk receptionist. Though he requested to use a phone, his request was denied. Subsequently, Pryor found someone outside who allowed him to use their phone, which authorities believe he used to contact Diggs.
Law enforcement agencies strongly believe Pryor is still in Philadelphia as they work tirelessly to capture him. During a press conference, Robert Clark, a deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service, urged Pryor to turn himself in, stating, "If Shane Pryor wishes to contest his charges, he should be fighting his case from the courtroom and surrender to the nearest police officer immediately."
Authorities have described Pryor as being 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. At the time of his escape, he was last seen wearing a blue sweater, sweatpants, socks, and flip-flop or slide-type shoes.
Pryor had been incarcerated since being charged, at the age of 14, with the murder of 54-year-old Tanya Harris in 2020. He is currently awaiting trial in that case. The escape adds an alarming twist to his legal proceedings, as law enforcement agencies and the community remain on high alert until he is apprehended.
Residents are urged to report any information or sightings of Shane Pryor to the authorities immediately. The U.S. Marshals Service and local law enforcement are sparing no effort to ensure the safety of the public and bring the escaped teen murder suspect back into custody.
