In a shocking turn of events, new court documents have revealed the disturbing details surrounding the suspect involved in the recent shooting rampage across Texas. The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Shane James, allegedly broke into a home where a woman and her daughter with "special needs" were tragically killed. Furthermore, it has been disclosed that James attempted to escape from jail after his arrest, but was quickly overpowered by deputies.

According to a probable cause affidavit and a spokeswoman from the Travis County Sheriff's Office, James pushed past a corrections officer while in custody at the Travis County Jail. However, deputies swiftly intervened, restraining the suspect and utilizing force to subdue him. The spokeswoman emphasized that the jail is a highly secure facility, making it impossible for James to escape the floor or the building itself.

As authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the shooting spree, questions are being raised regarding whether it could have been prevented. It has been revealed that James had an active arrest warrant relating to an incident from early 2022. Despite this, he was able to carry out the attacks, leaving six people dead and three others injured in San Antonio and Austin.

James is now facing pre-indictment charges of capital murder of multiple persons and capital murder by terror threat or other felony, both of which are punishable by death. A hearing has been scheduled for January 18.

One attack detailed in the recently released probable cause affidavit occurred in Austin before 7 p.m. local time on Tuesday. A homeowner watching the live feed from his surveillance system alerted the authorities after witnessing an intruder breaking into his residence on Austral Loop. Upon confrontation, James opened fire, hitting a detective before fleeing the scene in a stolen car. Security footage later analyzed by detectives captured James kicking down the back door of the house while armed with an Inland Manufacturing 1911 A1 .45-caliber pistol.

Upon reaching speeds of up to 90 mph, James was ultimately apprehended after crashing the stolen vehicle. Authorities discovered a pistol and handgun magazines on the suspect's person during his arrest. A search warrant has also been obtained, allowing Austin police to collect DNA samples from James in connection with the Austral Loop home invasion.

The violence of these events seemed to have commenced between late Monday and Tuesday morning, as the bodies of James' parents, Phyllis and Shane James Sr., were discovered in their San Antonio-area home on Tuesday evening. An initial call reporting a shooting involving a sergeant from the Austin Independent School District police force was received at around 10:43 a.m. on Tuesday, prompting a lockdown of the local high school.

Other incidents reported throughout the day include a double homicide in south Austin and a non-fatal gunshot injury sustained by a bicyclist. Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to determine the origin of the weapon used in these attacks and whether there is any connection between James and his victims.

James had a previous record with law enforcement in Bexar County, where his family resides near San Antonio. In January 2022, he was arrested on three misdemeanor assault charges for allegedly assaulting his parents and a sibling. James was later released on bond after payment of a $300 fee, facilitated by the Texas Organizing Project in coordination with the Bexar County Public Defender's Office. However, he violated the terms of his release by cutting off his ankle monitor, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant.

While acknowledging James' history of mental health issues, including a previous incident in the military, officials stated that they were unaware of any other accusations against him at the time of his 2022 arrest. It is unclear whether authorities had access to this information during their interaction with James.

The investigation into these horrific events continues, as both law enforcement and the community grapple with the tragic loss of innocent lives and seek answers amidst the devastating aftermath.
