CLEVELAND (WJW) - A study released by the American Journal of Emergency Medicine this summer has revealed a startling trend in the United States. Approximately 4,000 individuals per year seek medical assistance to have foreign objects removed from their rear ends, according to the study.

However, this is just one instance of a growing problem. Data recently obtained by FOX News from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that nearly 300,000 people visited the emergency room in 2021 due to foreign objects lodged in various parts of their bodies. This makes it the ninth leading cause of unintentional injury-related hospitalizations.

The study highlighted the importance of recognizing that orifices are not meant for foreign object intrusion, unless it is done for investigative medical purposes. Dr. Marc Siegel, a professor at New York University, emphasized this point to viewers of FOX News.

Surprisingly, the list of objects found inside the human body is rather astonishing. The 2022 data from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's database provided a glimpse into the bizarre nature of incidents involving foreign objects.

Notably, the study found that men were more likely than women to require medical assistance for removing objects from their rear ends. Over half of these incidents involved sex toys.

While the data did not provide information on how the objects got stuck or the duration it took to remove them, the few explanations available were quite intriguing. For example, one patient reported having swallowed foil because they forgot to remove the wrapping from a burrito.

This study serves as a reminder of the potential dangers associated with inserting foreign objects into the body. Health care professionals are urging individuals to avoid engaging in such risky behavior.

As the number of cases involving foreign objects continues to rise, it is crucial for the public to understand the risks involved. Furthermore, it is essential to spread awareness about the importance of seeking medical assistance promptly if such incidents occur.
