In a case that has sent shockwaves through a peaceful neighborhood in Reedley, California, police have charged a 17-year-old neighbor with four counts of homicide after four members of the same family were found dead in two adjacent houses. The incident, described as a "complex puzzle" by authorities, unfolded on the 1100 block of South Church Avenue, about 25 miles southeast of Fresno.
The horrifying discovery was made when police arrived at the home of Billy Bonds, 81, and Guadalupe Bonds, 44, on Saturday morning. The couple was found deceased inside their single-story house. Disturbingly, officers also found an empty gun safe, leading them to suspect that several rifles and pistols had been taken.
During a search of the property, police stumbled upon the body of Darrell Bonds, 61, who was Billy Bonds' son. Media reports reveal that Darrell Bonds was discovered in a shallow grave, adding another layer of macabre to the already grim scene.
Following the grisly revelations, police issued an appeal to locate 43-year-old Matthew Bonds, the husband of Guadalupe Bonds. He was reported as an at-risk missing person. However, their search took a tragic turn when they discovered Matthew Bonds' lifeless body in a detached garage. Local reports indicate that he bore signs of trauma. Matthew Bonds was Darrell Bonds' son and Billy Bonds' grandson.
Speaking during a news conference, Reedley Police Chief Joe Garza expressed his dismay, calling this "one of the most heinous crimes" he has encountered in his 30-year career. The investigation is still ongoing, with authorities working diligently to piece together the details of the incident.
Chief Garza expressed his belief that the 17-year-old suspect did not act alone, indicating that there might be additional individuals involved. As part of their investigation, law enforcement executed three search warrants, leading to the arrest of the teenage boy. Brynn Curtis, 34, and Rafael Gonzalez, 21, were also arrested on charges of accessory after the fact. Fox 26 reported that Curtis and Gonzalez are in a relationship, and the arrested teenager is Curtis' son.
Curtis and Gonzalez were subsequently released on bond, while the 17-year-old suspect remains in custody without bond.
The Reedley Police Department has emphasized its commitment to diligently pursuing all leads in this shocking and tragic case. In a Facebook post, they stated, "We continue to investigate this case with the highest level of dedication and urgency. The recent arrests in connection with these homicides represent significant progress, yet our work is far from over."
As the investigation continues, the tight-knit community in Reedley grapples with the loss of four of its own. The motive behind the killings, the full extent of involvement by other individuals, and the circumstances leading up to the crime remain to be uncovered.
