Scott's endorsement marks the latest in a series of former Republican presidential rivals who have thrown their support behind Trump.

The decision comes shortly after Vivek Ramaswamy dropped out of the 2024 race and backed Trump following the Iowa caucuses. North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum also recently expressed his support for the former president.

However, Scott's endorsement is of particular significance as it comes ahead of his home state primary in South Carolina on February 24. The senator's backing of Trump carries added weight, as it comes at the expense of former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, who appointed Scott to his Senate seat in 2012 before he went on to win re-election multiple times.

Responding to Scott's plans to endorse Trump, Haley expressed surprise at the former president aligning himself with "Washington insiders" despite his promise to "drain the swamp." She stated, "But the fellas are gonna do what the fellas are gonna do."

According to a source involved in Scott's decision-making process, the senator finalized his choice on Friday morning after both Trump and Haley approached him this week seeking his endorsement. Conversations are now underway about the possibility of Scott joining Trump at another event on Sunday or Monday.

Trump, who has garnered endorsements from Senator Lindsey Graham, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, and three Republican members of the state's U.S. House, will now have the backing of 26 out of 49 Senate Republicans once Scott officially endorses him.

The timing of Scott's endorsement, just four days prior to the New Hampshire primary, is crucial as Trump aims to build upon his commanding victory in the Iowa caucuses. Furthermore, Scott's withdrawal from the presidential race in November has fueled speculation that he could be a potential running mate for Trump should he secure the Republican nomination.

As the political landscape continues to shift and allies align, Trump forges ahead with his bid to regain the presidency, receiving crucial support from key figures within the Republican Party. The New Hampshire rally promises to be a significant event as Trump capitalizes on the momentum gained from his recent endorsements and looks to solidify his position in the race.
