**Elon Musk Rallies Against President Trump's Tax Bill Over EV Credit Cuts**

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is pushing to halt President Donald Trump's tax bill after failing to convince Republican legislators to keep critical tax incentives for electric vehicles, according to a source familiar with Musk's efforts. These incentives have been beneficial to Tesla over the years. Despite personal efforts to appeal to House Speaker Mike Johnson, the legislation still proposes to eliminate the $7,500 subsidy for electric cars by the end of 2025.

Musk took to social media, urging the public to call their senators and congressmen to oppose the bill, emphasizing that "Bankrupting America is NOT ok!" While Johnson did not confirm Musk's direct approach in an interview with Bloomberg Television, he acknowledged their close communication and plans to discuss the matter further. Johnson emphasized the nature of the bill as a budget reconciliation measure aimed at advancing the "America First" agenda.

Despite Johnon describing Musk as "pretty dug in," there seems to be mutual misunderstanding about the bill’s objectives. Johnson pointed out the confusion surrounding the legislation and Musk's motivations but did not dismiss the latter’s concerns about its impact on the EV market.

The clash follows Musk's departure from leading the federal cost-cutting Department of Government Efficiency, a role that reportedly diminished his business reputation and affected Tesla’s sales. Republicans argue that rolling back clean energy credits is vital to reducing the financial burden of the tax and spending bill, which could add $2.4 trillion to the U.S. budget deficits over the next decade, per a Congressional Budget Office estimate.

As Trump campaigns for support on the bill, Musk’s vocal opposition introduces potential delays and complications in ratifying the legislation. The tension highlights Musk's complex relationship with Washington, especially as his high-profile support and financial backing for Republican causes come under scrutiny during these legislative battles.

Adding another layer to this dynamic, financial technology billionaire Jared Isaacman claims that Musk's influence led to the withdrawal of his NASA nomination, influenced by disagreements with White House Presidential Personnel Office head Sergio Gor. Meanwhile, a White House spokesperson emphasized that President Trump makes the final decisions on administrative appointments.

Musk's significant financial contributions to the Republican party, totalling over $290 million in 2024, underscore his influence in political circles. The stakes are high as the party vies for control of the House in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, where Musk’s support could play a pivotal role.
