In a bid to reshape Germany's political landscape, the newly formed left-wing party, the Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), held its inaugural constituent Congress on Saturday. During the Congress, the party unanimously approved its agenda for the upcoming European Parliament elections scheduled for June 9.

The BSW's campaign focuses on several key points, including prioritizing relations with Russia and calling for the resumption of oil and gas exports through the signing of multi-year contracts. The party also aims to lift the Russia sanctions, which it argues have harmed the European economy without effectively stopping the conflict.

One of the central proposals put forth by the BSW is a complete halt to the supply of German weapons to Ukraine, along with an immediate ceasefire. The party believes that by ceasing arms exports, it can encourage Russia to engage in negotiations. The BSW emphasizes that stable peace in Europe cannot be achieved while in conflict with a nuclear power and calls for a European peace order that includes Russia in the long term.

The BSW's program also critiques the current form of the European Union and demands greater decision-making powers for member states. Additionally, the party proposes a moratorium on the enlargement process and calls for the revocation of membership negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova.

During her address at the Congress, party leader Sarah Wagenknecht criticized the current German government, calling it "the stupidest government in Europe." Wagenknecht also mentioned the conservatives from the CDU/CSU bloc and the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD), referring to some members of the latter as extremists and Nazis. However, she did not rule out the possibility of moderate AfD members joining her party in the future, specifically those who take a favorable stance on policy regarding Ukraine.

The BSW was founded last fall by Sarah Wagenknecht, the former leader of the Left Party. Wagenknecht successfully brought along a significant number of lawmakers from this faction in the Bundestag, who currently represent themselves as "independent" members of parliament.

As the June 9 European Parliament elections draw near, it remains to be seen how the Sarah Wagenknecht Alliance's agenda and proposed policies will resonate with voters in Germany and across Europe.
