In a shocking turn of events, the Santa Rosa Police Department is urgently seeking the public's help in locating a homicide suspect who is believed to have decapitated a woman. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, prompting a swift response from law enforcement officers.
The grim discovery was made when officers from the Santa Rosa PD arrived at a residence in the 2500 block of Pomo Trail at approximately 3:40 p.m. Reports of a potential homicide had led them to the scene, where they found the lifeless body of a woman who had been gruesomely decapitated. Disturbingly, her missing head was nowhere to be found at the location.
Taking charge of the investigation, detectives from the SRPD Violent Crimes Investigation team commenced their inquiries by interviewing individuals who might possess crucial information related to the incident. Through preliminary investigations, authorities identified the primary suspect as 24-year-old Santa Rosa resident Luis Gustavo Aroyo-Lopez, who is reported to be related to the victim.
According to law enforcement officials, Aroyo-Lopez allegedly killed the victim before fleeing the residence. Interestingly, it is believed that he left the scene with the victim's head in his possession. Descriptions of the suspect reveal him to be a Hispanic male, standing approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. Aroyo-Lopez has black hair, brown eyes, and distinctive tattoos on the left side of his head, including the number "420" and a marijuana leaf.
Authorities have disclosed that Aroyo-Lopez was last seen wearing a long-sleeve black hooded sweatshirt or jacket, black pants, and white shoes. Surveillance footage suggests that he departed the residence and headed south on Iroquois Street, but his current whereabouts and method of travel remain unknown. Although he has relatives in the San Joaquin Valley area, it is uncertain whether he is headed there.
Adding another concerning layer to the case, Santa Rosa police have revealed that Aroyo-Lopez was recently released from state prison, having been placed on Postrelease Community Supervision. His past incarceration was due to charges of assault with a deadly weapon and weapons possession, unrelated to the victim in this horrific incident.
Given the seriousness of the crime and the potential danger posed by the suspect, an active homicide warrant has been issued for Aroyo-Lopez's arrest. Police urge the public to exercise caution as he is considered armed and dangerous.
As the investigation unfolds, law enforcement agencies are working diligently to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice. Any individual with information regarding Aroyo-Lopez's whereabouts or any additional details related to the case is encouraged to contact the Santa Rosa Police Department immediately.
The Santa Rosa PD emphasizes that progress is actively being made in this tragic case, as the pursuit for justice continues.
