A prominent Russian lawmaker and ally of President Vladimir Putin, Vladimir Egorov, was discovered dead under perplexing circumstances on Wednesday. According to Russian state media, Egorov fell from the third floor of his Tobolsk home, located in the Tyumen Oblast region of western Siberia.
The 46-year-old member of Putin's ruling United Russia party tragically plunged 30 feet to his death in the courtyard of his residence. Police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of this tragic incident, as reported by the media outlet Baza on its Telegram channel. TASS, the Russian news agency, also confirmed Egorov's fatal fall, citing an investigative department from the Tyumen region.
Speculation arose suggesting that Egorov may have suffered from heart problems prior to the deadly incident, as reported by the New York Post, citing the 72 news outlet. However, the official cause of his fall remains under investigation by authorities.
This unfortunate event adds to a recent string of notable figures in Russia meeting their demise following falls, particularly since the beginning of the war with Ukraine. Just a few months ago, in June, Kristina Baikova, a 28-year-old vice president of a Russian bank, tragically fell from her 11th-floor apartment. In February, Marina Yankina, a senior Russian military officer, plummeted 16 stories to her death in St. Petersburg.
Further, in September 2022, Ravil Maganov, the chairman of Russia's Lukoil oil giant, met a similar fate after falling from a sixth-floor hospital window in Moscow. In a separate incident in August, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner mercenary group, and several of his top lieutenants died when their jet crashed between Moscow and St. Petersburg.
In addition, May saw the sudden death of Russia's deputy science minister, Pyotr Kucherenko. Reports suggest that he fell seriously ill on a flight to Moscow. Kucherenko had allegedly been a private critic of the invasion of Ukraine.
Lastly, in April, Igor Shkurko, a high-ranking energy boss, was found dead in his prison cell following allegations of bribery.
As investigations into these incidents continue, concerns over the causes of these several fatal falls are mounting within the Russian public. With suspicions growing, authorities will hopefully provide answers and clarity to the families and the general public seeking closure in these tragic events.
