In a recent Twitter post, businessman and former Green Beret Pat Harrigan confirmed his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in North Carolina's 10th District. Harrigan's announcement came soon after incumbent Rep. Patrick McHenry announced his retirement at the end of his term.

Harrigan, who previously ran for the state's 14th District during the last election cycle but lost to Democratic Rep. Jeff Jackson, expressed his determination to bring experienced and battle-tested leadership to address the challenges facing the nation.

"Faced with President Biden's disastrous policies at home and abroad, our country needs experienced, battle-tested leadership," Harrigan stated. "I'm ready to step up in Congress to lead the charge for a better, stronger America."

Initially planning to challenge North Carolina state Rep. Tom Moore in the state's 14th District, Harrigan redirected his focus toward Washington following the redrawn maps that favored Republicans. Jackson, the Democratic winner in the 14th District, is now running for the position of attorney general.

In a launch video, Harrigan attributed his entry into politics to a divine calling and acknowledged the personal sacrifice it entailed. He alluded to an incident last year in which shots were fired at his home in Hickory, N.C.

Meanwhile, McHenry, who held the position of Speaker pro tempore after former Speaker Kevin McCarthy's departure earlier this year, declared his retirement from Congress. With nearly two decades of service, McHenry's decision paves the way for a new representative to take the reins in North Carolina's 10th District.

The forthcoming race in North Carolina's 10th District will undoubtedly be closely watched as Harrigan seeks to secure the Republican nomination and challenge the Democratic candidate for the coveted seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. As the political landscape evolves, voters will be analyzing both candidates' positions on key issues and their ability to lead and represent the district effectively.
