Police are on the hunt for a suspect following a shocking incident of multiple fatal stabbings in an apartment building in the Bronx. The victims include Jonathan Rivera, 38, his 5-year-old son Kayden Rivera, and 33-year-old Hanoi Peralta. The authorities were alerted to the crime scene early Sunday morning after receiving a distressing 911 call.
Upon arrival at the building on East 136th Street in Mott Haven, officers found Jonathan Rivera unresponsive in the hallway, bleeding from multiple stab wounds. As they searched the area, they entered a neighboring apartment on the first floor, where they discovered Kayden Rivera and Hanoi Peralta, both unresponsive and with multiple stab wounds. Tragically, all three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigations into the incident have determined that the deaths were ruled as homicides. The walls of the building's lobby remain spattered with blood as police continue to monitor the crime scene, leaving neighbors and family members in shock and disbelief.
Miguel Angel Rivera, the father of Jonathan Rivera, expressed his confusion and grief, stating that his son had been a good father who always tried his best for his son. Miguel Angel Rivera is now awaiting information concerning his son's phone, as it holds significant personal data. The elder Rivera revealed that his son had recently ended his relationship with Peralta but continued to visit the apartment building to spend time with his son.
According to Eusebio Baez, Jonathan Rivera's cousin, it appeared that Jonathan and Peralta were in the process of reconciling. The night before the tragic incident, they had attended a paint-and-sip event together, as suggested by Rivera's Instagram post. The couple seemed to be enjoying themselves, with Rivera sharing pictures of their artwork.
Jonathan Rivera was a father to four children, including Kayden. Besides his 5-year-old son, he had two teenage daughters and a 19-year-old son who had recently received a scholarship to a college upstate. Baez emphasized that Jonathan, who worked two janitorial jobs, was dedicated to providing for his children and enjoyed spoiling Kayden. The living room of his apartment was intentionally kept clear of large furniture, allowing the space to be filled with his son's toys.
Apart from being a responsible father, Jonathan Rivera also pursued his passion for snowboarding in his free time. He had a close-knit group of friends with whom he enjoyed recording his snowboarding adventures.
As the police investigation continues, neighbors express their concerns about a potential suspect still being at large. The NYPD, however, has not yet identified a suspect in the case. Fernando Cruz, a resident of the apartment building, recalled hearing disturbances and commotion in the hallway the night before the tragic incident. Other residents, like Cruz, express shock and fear over the unprecedented incident.
Miguel Angel Rivera, filled with sorrow and seeking justice, had a message for the suspect. He urged them to turn themselves in voluntarily, emphasizing that they cannot escape the ultimate judgement of a higher power.
As the search for the suspect intensifies, the community mourns the loss of three innocent lives and seeks solace amidst the unexpected tragedy that has rocked their neighborhood.
