In a recent announcement made by Olney Independent School District (Olney ISD) officials, it has been revealed that classes will be canceled due to an outbreak of annual illnesses. The decision was made to ensure the health and safety of students and staff members.
According to an email sent on behalf of Dr. Greg Roach, Olney ISD Superintendent, to the KFDX and KJTL newsroom on Monday night, January 22, 2024, all classes at Olney ISD campuses will be canceled on Tuesday, January 23, and Wednesday, January 24. This was deemed necessary as the district has been grappling with outbreaks of flu, COVID, and other infectious diseases.
Acknowledging the severity of the situation, a Facebook post from the Olney ISD official page on the evening of January 22 shed further light on the challenges faced by the district. "Due to excessive absences due to illness, all Olney ISD campuses will be closed on January 23 and 24," the Facebook post explained. This closure will allow students and staff members time to recover from their illnesses and enable the district's maintenance staff to sanitize all facilities thoroughly.
District officials have expressed their hope that classes will resume on Thursday, January 25, 2024, once the outbreak is contained. They have also urged everyone to take necessary precautions to stay healthy during this period, emphasizing the importance of staying indoors and following recommended health guidelines.
The outbreak of annual illnesses has presented a significant challenge for Olney ISD, disrupting the regular functioning of schools. However, through the cancellation of classes and the implementation of sanitation measures, the district aims to ensure a safe educational environment for its students and staff members.
As the Olney community rallies together to address this situation, the district remains committed to providing updates and guidance to its students and families. Stay tuned for further information regarding the resumption of classes and necessary health protocols.
