In a shocking turn of events, the estranged son of Nashville Police Chief John Drake is now on the run after allegedly shooting two Tennessee police officers. The suspect, identified as John Drake Jr., is considered "armed and very dangerous" according to state officials.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has added the suspect, aged 38, to their most wanted list. He is wanted for two counts of attempted first-degree murder, prompting a statewide manhunt to bring him to justice. A reward of $2,500 (£2,040) is being offered for any information leading to the arrest of Mr. Drake Jr.

The incident took place in the town of La Vergne, situated approximately 20 miles (32km) southeast of Nashville. Officers Ashley Boleyjack and Gregory Kern, both relatively new to the force, were responding to a stolen vehicle report outside a store when they encountered the suspect. A struggle ensued, and the suspect allegedly opened fire on the officers using a handgun.

Officer Boleyjack was struck in the shoulder, while Officer Kern sustained injuries to his groin and forearm. Both officers were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and are currently in a stable condition.

In a statement, Police Chief John Drake expressed his shock and deep sadness upon learning that his son is a suspect in the shooting. He admitted to having minimal contact with his son over the years, noting that he had veered into a life of criminal activity and is a convicted felon.

Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell extended his sympathies to Chief Drake, his family, and the injured officers, acknowledging that families cannot always be held responsible for the actions of their members despite their best efforts.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities are urging anyone with information about Mr. Drake Jr.'s whereabouts to come forward. The public is also advised to exercise extreme caution, as the suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous.

As the manhunt continues, the community stands united in support of the injured officers and in the hope that justice will swiftly be served.
