Miguel's Cocina restaurant in 4S Ranch has voluntarily closed its doors as San Diego County health officials investigate multiple cases of E. coli reported among its customers. The closure was initiated on Tuesday after several patrons reported falling ill after dining at the establishment.

According to ABC 10News, numerous social media posts highlighted instances where individuals who had eaten at Miguel's Cocina experienced illness, with some even requiring hospitalization. On Monday, a restaurant employee dismissed these reports as mere rumors, however, the situation has since intensified.

San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) officials have confirmed that they are currently investigating 13 cases of "confirmed or probable" E. coli linked to the 4S Ranch location of Miguel's Cocina. The ages of those affected range from 6 to 87 years old. Seven cases have required hospitalization, with one developing a severe complication known as hemolytic uremic syndrome.

The HHSA informed the public that the affected individuals or their families had dined at Miguel's Cocina between October 6 and October 18, experiencing symptoms between October 13 and October 19. The exact food sources responsible for the E. coli contamination are currently under investigation.

In a statement, HHSA officials emphasized that the restaurant is fully cooperating with the investigation and working closely with the County. As a precautionary measure, Miguel's Cocina made the voluntary decision to temporarily close until the source of the contamination can be identified.

The closure of Miguel's Cocina has raised concerns among the residents and the local community. The restaurant has long been a popular dining spot in the 4S Ranch area, and customers are hoping for a swift resolution to the health investigation.

San Diego County health officials are urging anyone who recently dined at Miguel's Cocina and experienced symptoms such as severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting to seek medical attention and report their illness to the HHSA.

As the investigation unfolds, the focus will be on identifying the specific food items associated with the E. coli outbreak. The priority remains ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected individuals and preventing any further spread of the bacteria.

Authorities are encouraging the public to remain vigilant and follow proper food safety practices when dining out. Regular handwashing, proper food handling, and thorough cooking of meats are some of the key measures individuals can take to protect themselves from foodborne illnesses.

The public will be eagerly awaiting updates from San Diego County health officials regarding the progress of the investigation and the reopening of Miguel's Cocina. Until then, customers are advised to seek alternative dining options in the 4S Ranch area as the restaurant undergoes thorough cleaning and remediation protocols in the interest of public safety.
