Tragedy Strikes as Michigan Couple Killed by Wrong-Way Driver on Date Night

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - A devastating accident occurred on the Lodge Freeway in Southfield, Michigan, as a wrong-way driver, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes without headlights, crashed into a vehicle, resulting in the deaths of a married couple. The incident took place in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 6, when Jen and Ryan Ambrosio, residents of Farmington Hills, were returning home from a date night.

The couple, who had six children ranging in ages from 2 to 9 years old, tragically lost their lives at the scene, leaving their community in shock and mourning. The parents were pronounced dead after the collision with the wrong-way driver's vehicle near Civic Center Drive.

According to Michigan State Police, the wrong-way driver, a 35-year-old man from Romulus, and his passenger, a 29-year-old woman from Detroit, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. It was discovered that the pair was attempting to flee from authorities at the time of the accident.

The series of events leading to the fatal crash began when troopers on patrol spotted a stolen Ford pickup truck at a gas station on 8 Mile Road at around 1:30 a.m. on January 6. The driver of the truck, upon noticing the approaching patrol car, reversed dangerously and left the gas station, initiating a police chase. As police pursued the vehicle, the driver turned off his headlights and made a U-turn on Telegraph Road, consequently reentering the northbound lanes of the Lodge Freeway in the wrong direction.

The collision occurred when the wrong-way vehicle collided with a GMC Terrain near Civic Center Drive, claiming the lives of Jen and Ryan Ambrosio. Both the driver and his passenger were initially listed in serious condition, but officials have stated that their injuries are expected to be non-life-threatening.

The close-knit community is now in mourning for Jen Ambrosio, 43, and Ryan Ambrosio, 45, who were known for their gentle and patient nature. Noriko Ernst, a member of their church, expressed her sadness and shock at the news, describing the couple as a wonderful model for the entire church family. The funeral for the Ambrosios is scheduled to take place this weekend.
