In a shocking turn of events, a massive rogue wave struck Ventura's coastline on Thursday, resulting in the injury of eight individuals. Despite high-surf warnings from the National Weather Service, a group of at least a dozen people gathered near South Seward Avenue to observe the swells. However, they were caught off guard when a powerful wave crashed over them, as shown in a video posted by the Ventura County Fire Department.

Reacting swiftly, the spectators and the drivers of two trucks tried to escape the surging water. Unfortunately, several people and one of the vehicles were swept away. Thanks to the rapid response of the Ventura County Fire Department, all eight injured individuals were transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

As of Friday morning, the condition of the injured victims remained unknown. However, city and county officials, along with the fire department, were actively working to clean up the flooded streets and prepare them for reopening. Public works crews in Ventura were also constructing berms to safeguard against future large waves near Pierpont Beach and the Ventura Harbor area.

Ventura and Santa Cruz counties experienced the worst of Thursday's extreme high surf, resulting in numerous rescues, road closures, and injuries. The National Weather Service repeatedly emphasized the dangers of the conditions, urging people to stay away from the water and the ocean. Alexis Clouser, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service Monterey office, described the situation as both perilous and deadly.

As the high surf advisory remains in effect, Ventura County officials continue to urge individuals to avoid the coastline. Multiple beaches, piers, state parks, and campgrounds in the county have been closed due to the ongoing hazardous conditions. Authorities are taking these measures to prioritize public safety and minimize the risk of further incidents.
