A young Massachusetts man, identified as 18-year-old Marc Francois from Stoughton, is now facing various charges after allegedly shooting a Rhode Island man during a planned meeting in Stoughton. The incident took place in broad daylight near the intersection of Central Street and Greenwood Avenue, prompting immediate police response.

According to Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara, the local dispatch received a 911 call reporting shots fired on Saturday. Responding officers quickly obtained a description of a man seen fleeing the area and established a perimeter to initiate a search. Eventually, they located a man fitting the suspect's description near a condominium complex. Police recovered a firearm believed to be connected to the shooting investigation.

In the ensuing investigation, officers began contacting nearby hospitals, discovering that a man with a gunshot wound had self-admitted to Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro within 45 minutes of the incident. Subsequent inquiries confirmed that the victim had been shot in Stoughton.

As a result, Marc Francois was taken into custody and charged with several offenses, including assault and battery with a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a license, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, disorderly conduct, and armed robbery.

While the shooting investigation is ongoing, Chief McNamara emphasized that the incident does not appear to be a random act of violence, providing reassurance that there is no immediate threat to the community.

Francois remains in custody with a bail set at $500,000 in cash. He is scheduled to appear in Stoughton District Court on Tuesday for arraignment.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are working diligently to gather additional evidence and information in this case. More updates will be provided as they become available.
