LEXINGTON, Ky. - School officials at Frederick Douglass High School are conducting an investigation after receiving a report on Wednesday morning suggesting that a student may have barricaded themselves inside a room. As a precautionary measure, the school immediately went into lockdown.

Upon investigation, Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) confirmed that the report was "bogus" as the mentioned room number does not exist in the school. Although the report did not mention any gun or shooting, law enforcement treated the situation as if a firearm was involved.

FCPS has reassured parents that there was never any imminent danger, and they are urged not to go to the school. In a statement, school officials emphasized the safety of all students within the FCPS district, stating, "There is no safety threat, and no students are in danger. All FCPS schools are safe and have no threat issues."

In response to the incident, FCPS outlined procedures for students who may wish to leave Frederick Douglass High School before the end of the day. They must be accompanied by their parents, and the absence will be considered excused, provided there is a parent note. The note can specify the reason for the absence, including sick or mental health days. However, students are encouraged to remain in school and continue with their classes and activities, as the situation has been resolved, and normal operations have resumed.

The investigation into the origin of the "bogus" report is ongoing. Frederick Douglass High School officials are working closely with law enforcement to identify the source of the false alarm and ensure the safety and well-being of their students.

FCPS encourages parents to communicate regularly with school administration and to report any suspicious activity or concerns promptly. The district remains committed to maintaining a safe learning environment for all students.

As more information becomes available, updates on the investigation will continue to be provided to the public.
