The move comes as National Border Patrol President Brandon Judd accuses liberal media outlets of providing constant cover for the Biden administration's immigration policies.

Introduced by Rep. Mark Green, the articles accuse Mayorkas of "willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law" and "breach of public trust." The allegations center around Mayorkas repeatedly violating laws enacted by Congress relating to immigration and border security.

Green points out that millions of aliens have illegally entered the United States yearly, with many remaining in the country due to Mayorkas' alleged unlawful conduct. He emphasizes that Mayorkas' refusal to obey the law not only violates the separation of powers in the Constitution but also poses a threat to national security.

The first article of impeachment argues that Mayorkas knowingly made false statements to Congress regarding the security and control of the border. The second article alleges that he obstructed congressional oversight of his department.

According to Green, these articles present a clear, compelling, and irrefutable case for Mayorkas' impeachment. The Homeland Security Committee Chair asserts that Mayorkas has willfully and systematically refused to comply with immigration laws enacted by Congress, breached the public trust by making false statements, and obstructed congressional oversight.

House Speaker Mike Johnson has informed fellow Republican lawmakers of his intention to hold a House-wide vote on Mayorkas' impeachment as soon as possible. Johnson highlights polling data that indicates illegal immigration is a pressing concern for American voters.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a response to the allegations, criticizing Republicans for failing to present evidence of Mayorkas' commission of "high crimes or misdemeanors." The DHS called the GOP effort a "cynical and hypocritical process" that was pre-determined.

In a memo, the DHS accused House Homeland Security Committee Republicans of playing political games, noting that they have undermined bipartisan solutions and ignored facts, legal scholars, experts, and even the Constitution in their pursuit of baselessly impeaching Secretary Mayorkas.

Ranking member of the committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson, dismissed Republicans' argument, stating that the articles lacked any real charges or evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors as required by the Constitution. Thompson accused Republicans of abusing Congress' impeachment power to appease their supporters and divert attention from their perceived lack of action.

The push to remove Mayorkas comes amid rising numbers of illegal immigration during President Biden's administration. The situation at the border remains a contentious issue, with Republicans and Democrats offering different perspectives on how best to address the ongoing challenges.
