PHOENIX - A fourth suspect has been apprehended in connection to the horrific murder of 30-year-old Bernardo Pantaleon, according to court records released today. Christopher Ibarra, 21, was arrested on Monday in relation to Pantaleon's death and is currently held in Maricopa County jail on a $2 million cash-only bond.
Pantaleon's lifeless body was discovered on November 26th, displaying signs of "significant trauma" on a trail near Mountain View Park, close to 7th and Peoria avenues. Court documents indicate that Pantaleon had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and his body had been brutally mutilated, with injuries spanning his head, neck, and torso.
Family members of Pantaleon believe that he was specifically targeted due to his sexual orientation, considering the nature of the crime. Authorities, however, have not released any information about Ibarra's involvement or whether the murder is being investigated as a hate crime.
The Phoenix Police had already apprehended three other individuals in connection to the killing: Jose Rodriguez, 20, along with Leonardo Santiago and Manuel Carrasco-Calderon, both aged 21. Although Santiago is suspected of being the killer, all four suspects now face first-degree murder charges.
Details pertaining to the circumstances surrounding Ibarra's arrest remain undisclosed, as they were not immediately made available. Law enforcement authorities are continuing their investigation into this brutal murder, aiming to uncover further evidence and potential motives.
As the investigation progresses, family and friends mourn the loss of Bernardo Pantaleon, remembering him as a kind and vibrant individual. Detectives have urged loved ones not to view his body in its current condition due to the extreme nature of the injuries sustained.
The arrest of Christopher Ibarra marks a significant development in the case, bringing the total number of suspects involved in custody to four. The legal process will now proceed as authorities work towards justice for Pantaleon and his grieving family.
