Capitola, California - Theo Lengyel, a former member of the avant-garde jazz-metal group Mr. Bungle, has been arrested as a murder suspect in the death of his girlfriend, Alice "Alyx" Kamakaokalani Herrmann. The 54-year-old musician was apprehended by the police on Tuesday and has been booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on one count of first-degree murder.

According to reports from KRON, Lengyel is currently being held without bail pending further investigations and legal proceedings. The arrest follows Herrmann's disappearance on December 3, which made Lengyel a "person of interest." Authorities discovered human remains believed to be Herrmann's in Tilden Regional Park, while her car was found in front of Lengyel's residence. The El Cerrito Police Department stated that Lengyel was uncooperative with investigators. After Herrmann was reported missing, Lengyel allegedly traveled to Portland, Oregon.

The Contra Costa County Coroner's Office is still working to confirm whether the recovered remains are indeed those of Herrmann through DNA analysis.

Capitola Police issued a statement acknowledging the efforts of their investigators and law enforcement partners in apprehending Lengyel in connection with the "tragic homicide" of Alice Kamakaokalani Herrmann. They expressed their condolences to the victim's family and friends during this difficult time. The motive for the alleged murder remains unknown.

Lengyel's tenure with Mr. Bungle lasted from 1985 to 1996 during which he played the saxophone and clarinet on the band's first two major label albums, 1991's "Mr. Bungle" and 1995's "Disco Volante." Trevor Dunn, another band member, explained in a 2005 fan Q&A that the decision to part ways with Lengyel was due to his lack of growth within the band. Dunn mentioned that Lengyel became upset and they had not been in contact since.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the music community and fans of Mr. Bungle are left shocked and saddened by the tragic events involving one of their former members.
