Angela Chao, the CEO of Foremost Group and sister-in-law of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, tragically lost her life in a car accident at a private ranch in Texas. The incident occurred on Sunday and was first announced by her family on Wednesday. The Blanco County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

The Blanco County Sheriff's Office revealed in a statement on Friday that they responded to a possible water rescue on a private ranch in Blanco County, Texas. Angela Chao's body was recovered from a pond on the ranch by county deputies, EMS, and Fire personnel. Despite attempted emergency measures, she succumbed to being submerged in the water. The preliminary investigation suggests that her death was an unfortunate accident.

The exact location of the ranch in Johnson City was not disclosed by the sheriff's office. Angela Chao, a double Harvard graduate, took over as CEO of Foremost Group, a dry bulk shipping company, in 2018. She was married to venture capitalist Jim Breyer, who is also a part owner of the Boston Celtics NBA team.

Chao had an impressive professional background, previously serving on the board of the Bank of China and as a director of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation. She also held board positions on the American Bureau of Shipping Council, Harvard Business School's Board of Dean's Advisors, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Angela Chao was the sister of Elaine Chao, who served as Secretary of Transportation in the Trump administration and as Secretary of Labor under former President George W. Bush. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time, and no further details regarding the cause of the car accident have been disclosed.

Foremost Group, the company founded by Angela Chao's father, James Chao, in 1964, expressed their deep sadness over her untimely passing. Angela Chao's previous marriage was to investment banker Bruce Wasserstein, who passed away in 2009.

The news of Angela Chao's sudden death has sent shockwaves through her colleagues, friends, and the business community. Her contributions to the shipping industry and her extensive board involvements exemplified her reputation as a dedicated and accomplished professional.

As the investigation into the accident continues, Angela Chao's family, friends, and colleagues mourn the loss of a remarkable individual who will be remembered for her intellect, leadership, and impactful work in the business world.
