In a disturbing turn of events, the FBI and Colorado police are now collaborating to investigate an alleged co-conspirator involved in the planned school shooting at Mariemont High School. The FBI Cincinnati Field Office has disclosed that the Colorado Springs Resident Agency partnered with local authorities in Colorado Springs to contact an individual residing in the area. Although no arrests have been made, the investigation is ongoing.

Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers revealed on Thursday that a 14-year-old student had conspired with an out-of-state adult to orchestrate a "mass casualty event" at Mariemont High School. This shocking revelation has left the community in a state of disbelief. The teenager has been charged with conspiracy to commit aggravated murder.

According to Powers, law enforcement officials discovered a chilling hit list created by the 14-year-old, which included the names of at least eight students and one teacher. The young perpetrator had allegedly planned to use a firearm from his household to carry out the attacks in the near future. Powers shared disturbing text message exchanges between the teenager and the unidentified adult, originating from a Colorado Springs area code. The age of the adult involved was estimated to be between 22 and 24 years old.

During the correspondence, the duo discussed their desire to harm and potentially sexually assault the victims. Additionally, they discussed the possibility of utilizing gas as part of their sinister plot, as revealed in messages dating back to January.

Fortunately, law enforcement was able to intervene and thwart the planned attack due to a tip from another student. Zach Swallen, a parent whose child was aware of the threat, courageously reported the incident to authorities, despite facing direct threats himself.

In light of these disturbing developments, Prosecutor Powers is seeking to have the 14-year-old suspect tried as an adult, which could carry a life sentence if he is convicted. The teenager is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, February 21.

Prosecutor Powers emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of schools, stating, "Children should not fear coming to school. Teachers should not fear that their students will cause harm to them or their classmates."

WCPO 9 attempted to contact the family of the 14-year-old suspect for an interview, but they did not respond.

This unsettling incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilant community involvement in preventing tragic events and ensuring the safety of students and teachers. The collaborative efforts between the FBI and local authorities underline the commitment to preserving the well-being of our educational institutions.
