Five Dutch F-16 fighter aircraft have embarked on a journey to the European F-16 training center (EFTC) in Romania. The jets, consisting of three F-16AMs with serial numbers J-010, J-019, and J-366, as well as two F-16BMs with serial numbers J-064 and J-210, took off from Charleroi airport near Brussels.
The purpose of this deployment is to train pilots from both NATO countries and Ukraine at the EFTC. It is reported that the training center will soon open its doors to facilitate the training of these pilots.
In a bid to support Ukraine, the Netherlands plans to provide them with twelve to 18 fighter jets. However, it remains uncertain when Ukraine will be able to employ these F-16 fighter jets in actual combat situations.
The training process for the pilots is expected to span at least six months. Throughout the training period, the aircraft will exclusively operate in NATO airspace, as stated by the ministry. This ensures that the pilots can fully familiarize themselves with the capabilities and functionalities of the F-16s.
The Dutch F-16s departing for the Fetești airbase in Romania marks a significant step towards strengthening NATO's training capabilities and supporting allied nations. The collaborative effort between NATO countries and Ukraine demonstrates the commitment to enhancing defense readiness and fostering better interoperability within the alliance.
The training center's upcoming opening will provide a valuable platform for allied pilots, promoting mutual understanding and cooperation in joint operations.
