In a grand display of regal pomp and tradition, Denmark's new King Frederik X, alongside his wife Queen Mary and mother Queen Margrethe, participated in a special celebratory church service at Aarhus Cathedral. The newly crowned king and his family waved to the enthusiastic crowds gathered outside the magnificent 12th-century cathedral - the tallest church in the country.

The royal procession covered a distance of 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles), as they made their way from the Marselisborg Castle, the royal residence in Aarhus, Denmark's second-largest city, to the historic Aarhus Cathedral.

This momentous church service took place exactly a week after the 55-year-old Frederik ascended to the throne, following the abdication of his 83-year-old mother, Queen Margrethe, who signed her abdication during a meeting with the government.

The event attracted not only loyal subjects but also curious onlookers. Aarhus resident Christina Elmstroem, who attended the service with her children, expressed her excitement at witnessing this major event and expected that King Frederik and Queen Mary would bring their unique touch to the Danish monarchy.

Bishop Henrik Wigh-Poulsen, in charge of the Diocese of Aarhus, shared that despite having a short planning period of just two and a half weeks, the service was successfully organized with the input of King Frederik himself. The king took part in selecting the hymns to be sung, demonstrating his personal involvement in the ceremony.

During the hour-long service, Frederik's first official visit as king outside of the capital city, Copenhagen, the joyous atmosphere and support from the people of Aarhus were evident. Aarhus resident Charlotte Houman expressed her belief that King Frederik would rule with a focus on embracing the people and not maintaining a distant, elevated position.

With this ceremonial church service, King Frederik X's reign has officially begun, and the people of Denmark eagerly anticipate his distinctive approach to ruling and interacting with his subjects. As he takes the reins of the monarchy, King Frederik is poised to bring his own style and forge a strong bond with the Danish people.
