In a recent announcement, White House National Security spokesman John Kirby stated that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin's doctors believe he may still require some additional care. Speaking on CBS's 'Face the Nation,' Kirby mentioned that although Austin's potential release date is still uncertain, his medical team feels that he may need physical therapy to aid in his recovery.

Despite being hospitalized, Kirby highlighted that there is regular communication between President Joe Biden and Austin. Furthermore, the spokesman emphasized that the Defense Secretary remains actively involved and engaged in his duties from the hospital.

Providing an update on Austin's condition, the Pentagon stated on Saturday that he remains in good health. However, they have yet to determine a specific date for his release from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland.

Austin, who is 70 years old, was admitted to the hospital on December 22 to receive treatment for prostate cancer. Unfortunately, he had to return on January 1 due to complications, including a urinary tract infection, and has remained under medical care since then.

President Biden expressed his confidence in Austin's abilities on Friday, despite acknowledging a lapse in judgment regarding his secret hospitalization. The Pentagon chief's failure to inform Biden about his hospital stay drew criticism from lawmakers and caught the White House off guard.

As the Defense Secretary's hospitalization continues, the White House and medical team remain focused on his well-being and ongoing care.
