Collision Involving Tour Boat Sends Over Dozen People to Hospital

MIAMI - A collision between two vessels on the water near Bayside resulted in more than a dozen people being hospitalized, according to officials. The incident occurred a few miles away from PortMiami on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency response teams, including the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units, City of Miami Fire Rescue, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the U.S. Coast Guard, swiftly arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the collision in Fisherman's Channel.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Division Chief Horacio Rodriguez revealed that a Thriller sightseeing boat and a private vessel were involved in the crash, with a total of 29 people sustaining injuries. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown, but fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

Thirteen injured individuals were transported to hospitals, and at least one person was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Footage captured by 7News showed paramedics wheeling the victim into the hospital. A spokeswoman for the hospital confirmed that discussions with the trauma team were underway to provide an update on the injured patients.

Further investigation revealed the severe impact of the collision, with the Thriller sightseeing boat displaying a broken side and chairs out of place. The vessel was said to have originated from Bayside.

Additional ambulances and fire engines were witnessed at PortMiami, where the injured individuals were brought ashore. Rodriguez clarified that those without complaints were taken back to Bayside.

As authorities continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision, the injured victims are receiving care and attention at local hospitals. The investigation aims to shed light on how the incident occurred and to prevent such accidents from happening in the future.
