Chicago - Mario Munoz, a 34-year-old man, has been charged with arson and criminal damage to property in connection to two incidents involving Halloween decorations. The incidents occurred in North Center and Roscoe Village earlier this month.
On October 11, authorities responded to a home in the 2200 block of West Roscoe at approximately 3:45 a.m. Footage provided to WGN News captured Munoz allegedly setting fire to a decoration set consisting of two pumpkins. Fortunately, the homeowner promptly noticed the blaze and extinguished it.
Additionally, Munoz is also charged in connection to a property damage incident that took place on October 12 in the 4100 block of North Maplewood.
The Chicago Police Department released a community alert on October 17, detailing several other Halloween decoration arsons that have occurred in Lincoln Square, North Center, and Roscoe Village.
Munoz's arrest and subsequent charges come as a result of a concerted effort by law enforcement to crack down on these incidents and bring the perpetrator to justice.
The consequences of such acts go beyond property damage, as they instill fear and negatively impact the community's sense of safety. Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
Munoz is scheduled to appear in court on a date yet to be determined. If convicted, he could face severe penalties for his involvement in these disgraceful acts.
This case serves as a reminder for communities to come together and protect their neighborhoods from senseless acts of vandalism.
