In response to concerns surrounding President Joe Biden's memory and mental capacity, Biden campaign co-chair Mitch Landrieu has fired back, asserting that they are unfounded. The issue of Biden's mental capacity has become a point of contention among voters and policymakers in Washington, and it gained renewed attention following the release of Special Counsel Robert Hur's report, which alleged Biden's poor memory.

During an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press," Landrieu addressed comparisons between Biden and Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump's investigations relating to the mishandling of classified documents. He clarified that these were not comparable cases. "They're not even close to being the same cases," Landrieu stated firmly.

Landrieu further criticized the report for what he deemed an "ad hominem attack" questioning the president's capacity. He defended Biden's mental acuity by referring to his personal experiences of knowing and working with Biden for over three decades. "I've known [Biden] for 30 years. I have met with him personally, I've met with him with two people, five people, 10 people. I have been on trips with him crisscrossing the country, rebuilding America based on this incredible infrastructure bill that was passed. And I'm telling you, this guy's tough. He's smart," Landrieu emphasized.

The report by Special Counsel Robert Hur focused on the potential mishandling of classified documents by Biden that could have jeopardized national security. It highlighted the storage of classified documents in the garage of Biden's Delaware residence after the conclusion of his second term as vice president in 2017. However, the report ultimately concluded that the president did not commit any criminal wrongdoing.

While addressing the nation in a televised speech shortly after the release of the report, Biden denied allegations of a poor memory, stating, "My memory has not gotten worse... I'm an elderly man, and I know what the hell I'm doing."

The national address reignited discussions in Washington about potentially changing the Democratic ticket due to concerns over Biden's age. Recent polls have indicated increasing unease among voters regarding his capability. However, Landrieu dismissed these notions, highlighting Biden's resilience throughout his career. "Biden's accomplishments have been second to none," he asserted, adding, "The one thing Biden is never going to do - count on this - he is never going to quit."

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas supported Landrieu's defense of Biden during his appearance on "Meet the Press," drawing from his personal experiences working closely with the president. Mayorkas described Biden as "probing and detailed, and focused on the mission."

As the debate surrounding Biden's mental capacity continues, the president and his allies remain steadfast in defending his abilities and leadership.
