### Top Democrat Condemns Trump Administration's "Intimidation Tactics"

In a dramatic confrontation, a top Democrat has accused the Trump administration and Kristi Noem's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of creating turmoil after DHS agents detained a staff member from his New York office. This came to light following the release of a video by Gothamist, showing an agent handcuffing a distressed staffer while another tried to enter Representative Jerry Nadler's office. The building housing Nadler's office also contains an immigration courthouse, which has become a focal point of heightened tensions. Another agent accused the office of "harboring rioters" amid ongoing protests against the arrest of a Bronx high school student by DHS.

Rep. Nadler, who has previously been the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, strongly criticized the administration's approach, describing it as "reckless and dangerous." In a public statement, Nadler expressed his alarm over what he termed the "aggressive and heavy-handed tactics" employed by DHS not only in New York City but across the country. He warned that these intimidation methods could affect anyone, stating, "If this can happen in a Member of Congress's office, it can happen to anyone—and it is happening." Nadler called on President Trump and DHS to cease these practices and halt the expedited removal process, which he claimed denies due process to both immigrants and citizens.

A spokesperson for DHS defended the agents’ actions, saying they were conducting a "security check" following reports of protesters inside Nadler's office. The spokesperson claimed that the agents were concerned about the safety of federal employees and those present in the office. According to DHS, four individuals were found inside the office, with one becoming confrontational and allegedly obstructing the agents’ entry. However, no arrests were ultimately made, and everyone was released without further incident.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries further criticized the administration, suggesting that the actions were part of a broader effort to intimidate Democrats and the public. This incident is the latest in a series of clashes between Noem's DHS and Democratic officials. Recently, federal agents arrested Ras Baraka, the mayor of Newark, New Jersey, during a visit with House Democrats to a new immigration detention center. Although charges against Baraka were later dropped, Rep. LaMonica McIver was charged with felony assault for allegedly obstructing the agents. McIver denounced the charges as "purely political."

Additionally, Wisconsin judge Hannah Dugan was arrested after being accused of helping an undocumented immigrant evade arrest by guiding him out of her courtroom. This has sparked outrage among Democrats and former judges, who view the arrest as an attack on the judiciary system.
