Authorities in Gardner, Massachusetts have made a significant development in the ongoing search for Aaron Pennington, a 33-year-old man wanted in connection with his wife's death. On Monday evening, officials discovered Pennington's car in the woods at Camp Collier in Gardner, near the Ashburnham line.
The discovery of the vehicle came after a shelter-in-place had been ordered as part of the extensive search efforts. Ashburnham police confirmed that the car found belongs to Aaron Pennington and is the same vehicle involved in the investigation of Breanne Pennington's death. Breanne, 30, was found deceased inside their home on Cherry Street on October 22.
The Worcester County District Attorney's Office stated that police had been called to the residence following a reported disturbance. Upon arrival, officers found Breanne in an upstairs bedroom, where she had suffered a gunshot wound to the face. She was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m. Although no one else was found in the home, the four children of the Pennington couple, aged 2, 5, 7, and 9, had sought refuge with a neighbor who promptly contacted emergency services.
Investigators have since established the troubled state of the Penningtons' marriage, with court documents citing ongoing marital issues and Aaron's mental health struggles. Reports indicate that Breanne had been planning to relocate to Texas with the children to distance herself from Aaron's alleged threats of suicide. It was known that Breanne kept a firearm for protection purposes within the residence, even though neither spouse possessed a license to carry firearms in Massachusetts. However, a subsequent search of the home did not uncover any firearms, although three spent shell casings were found in the bedroom where Breanne was discovered.
In the midst of these revelations, Aaron Pennington fled the scene in a 2013 BMW 320 sedan, as captured on video surveillance. The children, fearing for their safety, sought shelter with a neighbor while waiting for the authorities to arrive. Since then, Massachusetts State Police and Gardner Police have been tirelessly searching for Pennington. Law enforcement officials have urged the public to refrain from approaching him as he is considered armed and dangerous.
The investigation into Breanne Pennington's death remains ongoing, led by State Police Detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney's Office and the Gardner Police Department. In the meantime, anyone with information about Aaron Pennington's whereabouts or the suspected vehicle is prompted to immediately contact 911, Gardner Police at 978-632-5600, or the Massachusetts State Police at 508-829-8236.
The discovery of Aaron Pennington's car has brought hope to the search efforts, intensifying the urgency to locate him and bring him to justice in relation to the tragic death of his wife. The community remains vigilant as law enforcement agencies continue their tireless pursuit of the fugitive.
