### Yankees Secure World Series Berth with Heroics from Stanton and Soto
The New York Yankees have earned their spot in the World Series, thanks largely to the dramatic performances of sluggers Giancarlo Stanton and Juan Soto throughout the American League Championship Series. In Game Five, Stanton evened the score with a crucial two-run home run in the sixth inning, while Soto sealed the victory with a three-run blast in the tenth.
Despite both players' significant contributions, only Stanton walked away with the ALCS MVP Award, along with a $250,000 bonus. Stanton's lucrative 13-year, $325 million contract, which began in 2015, includes incentives for various accomplishments: $50,000 each for Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, and All-Star appearance, $100,000 for winning league MVP, $250,000 for LCS MVP, and $500,000 for World Series MVP. With this latest accolade, Stanton's bonus earnings now total $550,000.
Throughout the five-game series, Stanton's hits were few but mighty—all four of his hits were home runs. His homer in the seventh inning of Game One extended the Yankees' lead to 5-1. In Game Three, he homered off Cleveland's closer Emmanuel Clase, temporarily giving the Yankees a 4-3 lead. He continued his power-hitting in Game Four, launching a three-run shot off Cade Smith to push the lead to 6-2. In the decisive Game Five, his two-run homer off Tanner Bibee tied the game, setting the stage for Soto's late-game heroics.
While Stanton's contributions were undeniably pivotal, some argue that Soto was more deserving of the MVP Award. Soto outperformed Stanton statistically, hitting .368/.478/.895 with three home runs, a double, and four walks, compared to Stanton's .222/.333/.889. According to Win Probability Added, Soto contributed to 0.81 wins during the series, whereas Stanton contributed 0.60.
Soto is set to become one of the most highly-anticipated free agents this offseason after finishing his final year of arbitration with a $31 million contract. Although he did not receive the ALCS MVP Award or a monetary bonus, his performance has undoubtedly bolstered his market value.
Looking ahead, the Yankees will focus on the World Series, with Stanton eyeing the $500,000 bonus tied to the World Series MVP Award. Both he and Soto will aim to continue their stellar performances as they strive to bring another championship to New York.
