### Yankees Trade Outfielder Taylor Trammell to Astros for Cash

In a surprising move that diverted from fans' expectations, the New York Yankees traded outfielder Taylor Trammell to the Houston Astros on Monday. The deal, which involves the Yankees receiving cash in return, was reported by Joel Sherman of The New York Post.

Trammell, 27, had recently been added to the Yankees' 40-man roster but spent the majority of the 2024 season with their Triple-A affiliate. Despite his limited major-league appearances this year, he earned a World Series ring for his brief stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier in the season, where he played five games from April 5-15 but did not register a hit in six at-bats.

After joining the Yankees, Trammell made five more appearances between April 20 and May 3, managing just one hit in two at-bats and adding two runs and a walk to his record. Reflecting on his achievement of receiving a World Series ring, Trammell expressed his excitement to The Athletic saying, "I get a ring now and that's such a cool thing to say. For me, this is so awesome because I can say I'm a World Series champion now. The next step is to be a World Series champion, and being there when it's won. That's the next goal."

Originally a first-round pick, Trammell's career has seen multiple trades. He moved from the Reds to the San Diego Padres in July 2019, and then again from the Padres to the Seattle Mariners in August 2020. This year alone, he was waived twice, landing first with the Dodgers and then with the Yankees on April 18.

During his time with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Trammell showcased solid performance statistics, batting .256/.381/.488 with 18 home runs, 63 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases across 106 games. However, his major league numbers have not been as impressive, with a career 79 OPS+ over 359 plate appearances.

As Trammell joins his sixth professional organization, he is expected to play a key role at the top minor league level, with potential opportunities to step up to the major league roster if needed. Meanwhile, Yankees fans are anxiously awaiting an update on Gerrit Cole's contract, which faces a 5 p.m. ET deadline for resolution to avoid him becoming a free agent.
