**Yankees Eyeball Alternatives If Juan Soto Deal Falls Through**

As the New York Yankees face a daunting battle to overcome a 3-0 World Series deficit against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team's management is already strategizing for the offseason. With their prized outfielder Juan Soto set to hit free agency at the end of the year, New York is exploring various backup plans should they fail to secure his return.

Juan Soto, who joined the Yankees following a trade with the San Diego Padres last winter, has been a pivotal part of the team’s first World Series run in 15 years. However, retaining the 26-year-old star remains uncertain, as numerous teams are expected to vie for his signature, potentially driving his price beyond what New York is willing to pay.

Reports from Jon Heyman of the New York Post suggest that the Yankees have several high-profile names on their radar should a deal with Soto not materialize. Among the players being considered are Pete Alonso, who has spent his entire career with the cross-town Mets, Anthony Santander, and Alex Bregman. In addition to these batting prospects, the Yankees are also contemplating pitching reinforcements, with Blake Snell and Corbin Burnes topping that list.

The Yankees’ approach, according to Heyman, is not to seek a direct one-for-one replacement for Soto but to bolster their roster with multiple stars. This strategy indicates that New York could potentially sign three to four big names to fill the void left by Soto.

Financial constraints may complicate the Yankees' plans. Team owner Hal Steinbrenner has previously labeled the current payroll situation as “unsustainable.” The team already has significant financial commitments, with Aaron Judge, Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Giancarlo Stanton each signed to $25-million-plus annual deals extending through 2027 and beyond.

Heyman’s report also indicates that the Yankees believe landing Soto would necessitate a contract spanning 13 years, presenting another financial hurdle. Consequently, New York's management is preparing to pivot to other star players if staying within budget precludes a reunion with Soto.
