In Ventura, a tragic wrong-way crash occurred overnight resulting in the loss of two lives. The incident took place on the 101 Freeway near Emma Wood State Beach in the early hours of Saturday. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers were alerted to a driver heading south in the northbound lanes just before 2:30 a.m.

Preliminary information suggests that a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a Nissan Versa north of Seaward Avenue. Distressing video footage from the scene, obtained by KTLA, reveals the aftermath of the collision, with the two vehicles severely damaged and debris scattered across all lanes of the freeway.

According to initial reports, the victims, whose identities have not yet been disclosed, were the two occupants of the Nissan. The CHP has withheld further information pending notification of their families.

The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, whose identity remains unknown, was taken into custody and is suspected of driving under the influence. The individual now faces charges of two counts of vehicular manslaughter.
