Welsh rugby sensation, Louis Rees-Zammit, has turned heads as he showcased his skills at the University of South Florida's pro day in Tampa. The 23-year-old winger shocked the rugby world when he announced his departure from the Welsh national team in January to pursue his dream of playing in the NFL.

Rees-Zammit, one of the best wingers in rugby, is now shifting his focus to the football field. As part of the NFL International Player Pathway program, he is among 15 athletes from eight countries vying for a chance to earn a spot on an NFL roster. The program aims to increase the number of international players in the league.

During USF's pro day, Rees-Zammit was closely scrutinized by 51 scouts representing 31 teams, with the exception of the Rams. All eyes were on him as he took on the 40-yard dash, where he clocked a time of 4.43 on his second run, improving from his initial attempt of 4.5 seconds.

Although he expressed some disappointment with his performance, Rees-Zammit remains confident in his abilities. The versatile athlete is trying out as a running back, wide receiver, and returner. He displayed his agility, quickness, and good hands during drills, impressing scouts with his raw talent and potential.

Following his standout performance, the NFL announced that Rees-Zammit will be visiting the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets, with more teams expected to show interest. His visit provides an opportunity for teams to evaluate his skills and assess his suitability for the league.

Since the inception of the NFL International Player Pathway program, a total of 37 international players have signed with teams, with 18 currently on rosters. Notably, former Australian rugby player Jordan Mailata has excelled in the program, becoming the Philadelphia Eagles' starting left tackle in 2020 and establishing himself as one of the league's top players at his position.

With the league expanding opportunities for international players, including a 17th roster spot on practice squads and the ability to elevate players to the active roster, prospects like Rees-Zammit, Nigerian wide receiver Praise Olatoke, and English offensive lineman Travis Clayton have the chance to develop their skills and make an impact in the NFL.

As Rees-Zammit continues his pursuit of a career transition from rugby to football, his dedication and passion for the game are palpable. The Welsh star's journey serves as inspiration for aspiring athletes worldwide, emphasizing the importance of taking risks and pursuing dreams, regardless of the sport or international boundaries.
