### Trade Rumors Surrounding Dolphins' Jonnu Smith and Steelers Seem Unfounded
Despite speculation about a potential trade involving Miami Dolphins' tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers, such a move appears unlikely. According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, initial discussions about the trade did take place, but the Steelers are not expected to proceed with acquiring Smith.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel emphasized Smith's significance within the team's offense, suggesting that trading the tight end is not a priority. Smith, who signed a two-year, $8.4 million contract with the Dolphins last season, made a substantial impact during his first year in Miami. He recorded an impressive 88 catches for 884 yards and eight touchdowns, earning the distinction of being the team's sole Pro Bowl selection.
However, reports indicate that Smith is seeking a pay raise for the second year of his deal, which could prompt the Dolphins to consider trading him to a team willing to meet his salary demands. Smith's career trajectory has seen him play for multiple teams since being drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent four years with the Titans, followed by stints with the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons, before joining the Dolphins.
At 29 years old, Smith delivered his best professional season in 2024, flourishing within the Dolphins' offensive scheme. While his performance makes him a valuable asset for Miami, the possibility of him playing elsewhere cannot be entirely dismissed. Nonetheless, it seems clear that a move to Pittsburgh is not on the horizon.
