### New RB TreVeyon Henderson Impresses Early in Patriots Offseason Workouts
Although the offseason workout program lacks full pads and live contact, it provides a glimpse into what the NFL action may look like in the future. This is especially true for the running game, which won't be fully engaged until the summer. The New England Patriots' running back group, therefore, has not been prominently in the spotlight so far. Nonetheless, one new face is already making waves — rookie TreVeyon Henderson.
Henderson, the 37th overall pick in this year's NFL draft, has been turning heads with his impressive speed and quick grasp of the playbook. Renowned for his swiftness both on and off the field, Henderson is one of the fastest players to join the Patriots' roster.
"He's certainly fast and brings a speed element to our team. Anytime you can get guys as fast as he is, it is beneficial for the whole offensive unit and special teams," said running backs coach Tony Dews. He also added, "In the time I got to spend with him, he seemed to pick up concepts fairly quickly."
Echoing Dews' sentiment, Rhamondre Stevenson, the most seasoned member in the Patriots' running back room, praised his new teammate. "Explosive guy," Stevenson remarked. "He's learning pretty quick, and I'm excited for him."
Henderson's reputation precedes him. Highly sought after in high school and a legend at Ohio State, he played 47 games over four seasons, racking up 4,614 scrimmage yards and 48 touchdowns. His dual capability as an exceptional runner and receiver caught the Patriots' attention, leading them to select him in the second round.
"As assistant coaches, you evaluate the guys they give you to evaluate and you have an opinion on them," Dews explained. "At the end of the day, we will coach whoever they put in that room, but certainly he was a guy that had done some really good things in college. And he fits some of the needs that we felt like we could address with our running back situation."
The Patriots' current running back lineup includes six players: rookies Henderson and undrafted free agent Lan Larison, and veterans Stevenson, Antonio Gibson, Trayveon Williams, and second-year player Terrell Jennings. Despite his recent entry, the expectation is that Henderson will have a significant role in the Patriots' offensive scheme this season.
"He obviously caught the ball well out of the backfield. He did a really good job, I thought, in pass protection. With all those things you feel like you're getting a good prospect, and we have to see how it materializes from there," Dews concluded, highlighting his optimism about Henderson's potential contribution to the team.
