The United Cajun Navy, a nonprofit organization specializing in missing person cases and rescue operations, has called off its search for 15-year-old Sebastian Rogers in Sumner County, Tennessee, citing escalating safety concerns. The organization joined the search for Sebastian last weekend after receiving multiple pleas for assistance in the case.
Volunteers from the United Cajun Navy had been in the Nashville area helping with the search for another missing person, 22-year-old Riley Strain, before redirecting their efforts towards finding Sebastian. The decision to focus on Sebastian's disappearance followed the successful recovery of Strain on March 22.
According to Kevin LaFond, Press and Communications Officer with the United Cajun Navy, the organization typically does not deploy twice to the same area. However, due to the overwhelming support and requests to continue the search for Sebastian, they decided to stay and assist. The organization set up their headquarters at 90 Volunteer Drive in Hendersonville on March 25.
The initial search, scheduled for March 26, was postponed due to unsafe weather conditions. However, volunteer search crews were able to conduct their first search on March 27, lasting until approximately 3 p.m. CST. Another search was planned for March 29, but the United Cajun Navy unexpectedly called it off just 20 minutes before the volunteers were set to meet.
In a statement shared on social media, the organization cited "increasing safety concerns" and the upcoming Easter holiday as reasons for their decision to "regroup and pull back." Reported threats against their volunteers have raised concerns about their well-being. Emphasizing that this does not signify the end of the search, the United Cajun Navy expressed gratitude towards all the volunteers who had planned to participate.
Sebastian Rogers went missing from his home on Stafford Court over a month ago, on February 26. Despite massive search efforts in the initial days following his disappearance, there has been no sign of the teenager. Sebastian is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds, with dirty blond hair. He was last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
Authorities urge anyone with information about Sebastian Rogers' whereabouts to contact the Sumner County Sheriff's Office at (615) 451-3838 or the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-TBI-FIND. As of now, it remains unclear when the United Cajun Navy will resume their search efforts. News 2 has reached out to the organization for further comments and updates on the case.
