A Ukrainian drone attack has left a significant blow to Russian forces after destroying armoured vehicles, tanks, and anti-aircraft guns worth "tens of millions" of pounds. The strike, which took place in the Donetsk region village of Staromlynivka, saw drones armed with explosives entering a warehouse unchallenged and wreaking havoc on parked equipment, including a BMPT "Terminator" and two T-72 tanks.

The footage of the drone strike showed fires raging inside the warehouse as Ukrainian drones from the Bulava strike unit crashed into Russian military assets. The attack, which occurred close to the front line on the Velyka Novosilka axis, highlighted the effectiveness of drones, particularly first-person view (FPV) ones piloted with virtual reality headsets.

Notably, the attack revealed a lack of security measures with entrances left uncovered, allowing the drones to penetrate the warehouse easily. Rob Lee from the Foreign Policy Research Institute emphasized the need for improved security to prevent such significant losses.

The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, addressed the situation, warning of Russia's exploitation of delays in aid and the need for increased artillery and front-line air defense capabilities. Western allies, including Britain and Latvia, have pledged support by donating thousands of FPV drones to Ukraine to bolster its military efforts against Russian occupation.

Despite the recent capture of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region by Russian forces, the UK Ministry of Defence downplayed the possibility of immediate Russian gains, stating that Moscow's forces would require a "period of rest" and refit following the industrial hub's seizure. This turn of events has raised tensions and highlighted the critical role that drones are playing in Ukraine's defense strategy.
