A senior Ukrainian official suggested that Ukraine and its foreign partners may invite representatives of Russia to a future peace summit to discuss an end to Moscow's two-year-old invasion on Kyiv's terms. The summit, hosted by Switzerland, will focus on a vision for peace by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, with a plan to be presented to Russia during a subsequent meeting at a later date.
Andriy Yermak, Zelenskiy's chief of staff, emphasized the potential for a cooperative dialogue, stating that if Russia is willing to genuinely end the war and return to a just peace, they could be presented with the peace plan during the summit. The peace formula, initially announced by Zelenskiy at a November 2022 meeting of the Group of 20 major economies, includes objectives such as restoring Ukraine's territorial integrity and the total withdrawal of Russian troops.
In response, Kyiv has maintained its stance that it will not engage in talks with Moscow until all Russian troops have vacated Ukrainian territory. However, the Kremlin has dismissed the current basis for peace discussions with Ukraine, labeling Kyiv's peace plan as absurd due to its exclusion of Russia from the process.
