Uber Driver Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Passenger in Washington State
In Washington state, an Uber driver named Ahmed Ali, aged 58, has been arrested and charged with second-degree rape and first-degree kidnapping. The arrest came after an incident in which Ali allegedly sexually assaulted a highly intoxicated female passenger over the weekend.
According to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, Ali used the Uber app to deceive authorities into thinking he had dropped the woman off at her intended destination in the county, which is located around an hour away from Seattle. Instead, he took her to a secluded area where the assault occurred.
Upon arrival at the location, Ali reportedly discovered his daughter naked in the back of the Uber. He then moved back to the front seat, appearing to hold his pants up, as described by witnesses. During the incident, two shots were believed to have been fired, with officials finding two shell casings in the area. It remains unclear whether the alleged victim's family was responsible for shooting Ali.
After the assault, Ali attempted to flee the scene, but he was apprehended by deputies who intercepted and stopped the vehicle. The Uber driver sustained injuries during his attempted escape and was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities have charged Ali with second-degree rape and first-degree kidnapping in connection with the incident. The victim's family has not been identified or released any information about their identities.
The Independent has reached out to Uber for comment, but no response has been received as of yet.
