In a recent development, the U.S. Embassy in Russia has issued a security alert, urging American citizens to avoid large gatherings in Moscow due to potential imminent attacks by unspecified "extremists." The warning, which extends for a 48-hour period, specifically highlights the risk of concerts being targeted.

The embassy's security alert comes in the wake of reports from Russian state media about the prevention of an armed attack on a Moscow synagogue. The attack was allegedly planned by the Afghan branch of ISIS, according to news sources. However, it remains unclear whether the embassy's security alert is directly linked to the reported foiled plot.

The U.S. government's travel advisory for Russia cautions all American citizens against traveling to the country, citing the "unpredictable consequences of the unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russian military forces." The advisory also mentions the threat of potential harassment or detention by Russian security officials.

Russian security agency, the FSB, stated in a press release that the foiled attack on the synagogue involved terrorists preparing to target the congregation using firearms. During the FSB's operation to detain the suspects, they reportedly encountered armed resistance, resulting in the group being neutralized by return fire. Additionally, a subsequent search of the suspects' accommodation yielded more weapons, ammunition, and components for creating an improvised explosive device.

With the security alert in effect, the U.S. Embassy in Russia is urging American citizens to exercise caution and to remain vigilant during their time in Moscow. Authorities are working diligently to address the potential threat and maintain security in the city.

As the situation continues to unfold, it is crucial for individuals to stay updated on any further developments or instructions provided by the U.S. Embassy and local authorities. Personal safety and security should take precedence during this time of heightened alertness.
