Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce showcased his knack for creative playmaking during Monday night's 26-13 win against the New Orleans Saints. Known for his tendency to lateral the ball in hopes of gaining extra yards, Kelce found a golden opportunity in a tricky second-quarter situation.

Kansas City faced a daunting second-and-34 when wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster managed to reclaim 13 yards. The pressure then shifted to Kelce on third-and-21. Surrounded by defenders after a short five-yard advance, Kelce seamlessly lateraled the ball to running back Samaje Perine near the sideline. Perine surged forward for an additional 15 yards, setting the Chiefs up for a crucial fourth-and-1, which Kareem Hunt successfully converted.

Perine later shared his thoughts on the impromptu play. "It was not scripted," he revealed in the locker room. "I've seen him do it a couple of times in practice. I was staying in phase just in case, and sure enough, he pitched it to me. It was crazy, but it was fun."

Although new to the team, Perine quickly adapted to Kelce's spontaneous style. "He's always pulling these moves in practice. You always have to be ready," he noted.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes joined in on the post-game commentary, humorously shaking his head at the unpredictable strategy. "I told him before the play that I was going to get him into field goal range. Then he underhand shoveled it across the field," Mahomes said, drawing laughs from reporters.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid couldn't help but joke about Kelce's laterals. "He makes good decisions on when to do it," Reid commented. "But if he doesn't, I tell him not to come back to the bench."

Despite the inherent risks, Kelce's bold playmaking continues to pay off for the Chiefs, adding an element of excitement to each game. This recent successful lateral is another testament to his exceptional skills and instincts on the field.
