Eighteen-year-old Carson Muir, a freshman swimmer at the University of Wyoming from Birmingham, was one of three team members who tragically died in a single-car crash near the Wyoming-Colorado border between Livermore and Virginia Dale, Colorado, on Thursday. Alongside Muir, the men's team members, Charlie Clark and Luke Slabber, also lost their lives in the accident.
The university confirmed that Muir was studying animal and veterinary sciences and was a promising member of the women's swimming and diving team. The crash also left two other male team members injured, with non-life-threatening injuries.
University of Wyoming's President Ed Seidel expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Muir, Clark, and Slabber, noting the recent passing of another student, Sabrina Geller, just a week before. The university community mourned their deaths and remembered the impact they had made.
Director of Athletics Tom Burman extended condolences to the families and friends of the deceased student-athletes, emphasizing the support available through counseling services for the university's students and coaches during this difficult time. The University of Wyoming is left shaken by this tragic loss within its tight-knit community of student-athletes.
