Tragic Aircraft Crash Claims One Life in Massachusetts' Merrimack River

In a devastating incident, an aircraft crashed into the Merrimack River between Lawrence, North Andover, and Methuen, Massachusetts, on Monday afternoon, resulting in the loss of one life. Officials have confirmed that the plane involved in the accident is a single-engine Van's RV-6A, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The Essex County District Attorney, Paul F. Tucker, has stated that one person has tragically died in the crash. However, the identity of the deceased has not been released at this time. The FAA has revealed that only the pilot was onboard the aircraft.

Eyewitness accounts, including Sky5's observation, indicate that the plane overturned in the river to the northeast of the Lawrence Municipal Airport. Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene and utilized rescue tools to access the fuselage from the bottom of the plane, carrying out a search for any additional occupants.

Flight tracking website FlightAware's records show that the ill-fated flight took off from Lawrence Municipal Airport at 2:11 p.m., and tragically, it was in the air for only about three minutes before the tragic crash occurred.

Emergency services immediately sprung into action, with ambulances strategically positioned at Riverview Boulevard, ready to provide assistance. Meanwhile, police helicopters circled overhead, providing support and conducting aerial assessments of the scene.
