Two police officers and a firefighter tragically lost their lives, and other officers were injured while responding to a domestic incident in Burnsville, Minnesota, on Sunday, Governor Tim Walz confirmed. The officers were responding to a call regarding a family in danger when the devastating incident occurred.

Governor Walz expressed his condolences, emphasizing the bravery and sacrifices made by police officers and first responders daily. Flags across Minnesota will be flown at half-staff on Monday as a sign of respect. The State Department of Public Safety is collaborating with local law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has responded to the scene following reports of a "domestic-related shooting" involving local police officers. Burnsville Communications and Community Engagement Director Carissa Larsen described the situation as "an active scene."

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara urged the public to keep the Burnsville Police Department in their prayers. Burnsville, located about 15 miles south of Minneapolis, was where the tragic events unfolded while officers were responding to a call about domestic abuse.

Jim Mortenson, the executive director of the Law Enforcement Labor Services union, extended thoughts and prayers to the families of the fallen officers and first responders. Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar and her husband also offered their prayers, highlighting the dedication of the officers to protecting the community.

The community mourns the loss of the brave individuals who put their lives on the line to keep others safe. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by those in law enforcement and emergency services.
